“It is impossible to say how first the idea entered my brain; but once conceived, it haunted me day and night.”

-Edgar Allan Poe, The Tell-Tale Heart

It was the summer of 1983, and I was twelve years old. Firestarter was the very first Stephen King novel I held in my hands. And, like the title, the book ignited a fire that burned deep within me. Creating an addict for Stephen King’s stories that had me yearning for more decade after decade.

How he blends fantasy and horror to create unique tales that drag you in, forcing you to stay up late into the night, flipping page after page, is magical.

I love his books, his gift for storytelling, and his ability to intertwine characters and worlds across 40 + years of novels.

And I dream of being an iota as talented as he is someday.

***Because I grew up reading Stephen King in my early years, and this is horror, my work is riddled with “triggers.” If you are easily affected, my stories are probably not for you.

Firestarter.
